The fall is a beautiful time of year in Iowa, with crisp air, changing colors, and falling leaves. But sometimes it can feel downright dreary too. I was inspired by the soft buttery yellow tones of white sunflowers. I actually don't typically enjoy working with sunflowers because they can be fussy and difficult to control. But gosh, these white sunflowers! With their cheerful faces and soft color, you almost can't help but smile when you look at them. I gathered lots of wild aster - very much in season in October - to create a light and airy feeling arch. To enhance the sunflowers barely there yellow hue, pops of sunny yellow chrysanthemums were added. Locally grown white dahlias with yellow eyes, white roses, and chamomile completed the loosely gathered bouquet.
